Captains lead the way!

Second XI Vs Astwood Bank:
Saturday in Campden started on a sad note, with a minute silence held for an old club member from Astwood Bank who had passed away during the week. However, contrary to the forecast, the weather was bright and sunny and having lost the toss, we were put into bat. R Lewis stood firm, later bolstered by R Postins. Lewis put on a stunning 133 before being caught out while Postins went on to 51* leaving Campden 246-6 at tea.
With a big target to chase down, Astwood Bank took to the wicket and were behind the run rate at the first drinks break and had lost 2 wickets. Feeling confident, Campden went on to take a few more wickets and were looking comfortable at the second drinks break with Astwood needing nearly 10 an over to take the win. With 5 overs to go, Astwood Bank were scoring well and Campdens earlier confidence was looking misguided! A quick change of bowling for the last 5 overs led to some stability but they still took us to the wire, needing 12 from the last over and nearly achieving it! With 6 required to win from the last ball, everything was left on the field but Astwood Bank finished on 241-8 with Campden 2s getting back to winning ways. The man of the match has to go to R Lewis who, in addition to his 133, took 3 wickets from his 9 overs, with assistance from A Parsons who took 2 from 6 overs and a special mention to T Billiard taking a wicket with his first ball, caught by Z Cooper at mid on.
Great day on a wicket that nearly produced 500 runs. On to Bretforton away next week for the 2s.
First XI Vs Overbury:
With the Captain away, it was time for Vice J Groves to shine. We were out to bat first, and our start was far from ideal. We found ourselves 10-3 off of just a few overs. Campden worked hard and managed to recover to score 212, with J Groves contributing an impressive 75 runs! With Overbury chasing 213, we knew it was going to be a close one.
With Sipthorp taking position behind the stumps, Campden knew what they had to do. Overbury got off to a good start 66-1 off 13 overs. The wickets then started to fall and Overbury were 109-5 at drinks. Despite our best efforts, it wasn’t enough and Overbury managed to chase down their target with a few overs to spare, with some very stylish 6s to finish the game off! Top performance by J Groves, as well as his 75 runs he took 4 wickets. Disappointing to not come away with the win but a good game and we go onto next week at home Vs top of the table Lapworth.
