A fabulous weekend of cricket saw the mighty yellow & blacks of Chipping Campden come home with two reasons to celebrate. A fine win against age old adversaries Ebrington in a crucial league tie on Saturday was augmented with a first win of the season for the Sunday eleven.
First XI; Chipping Campden 177 Ebrington 111
Second XI; Chipping Campden 188, Winchcombe 155
Richard Grey takes up the story…
Despite underachieving with the bat, Campden made it five league wins from five, with a 66 run victory over Ebrington. Winning the toss and batting first, Campden reached a total of 177, with 48 from Nicholls S and an unbeaten 50 from Dave Moore. Taking to the field after tea, Joe Cafearo picked up three key wickets and once again Dan Moore mopped up the tail, taking four of the lower order.
Dan Moore was back at the helm on Sunday with a feisty half century, assisting a fired up Sunday side to 188 off 30 overs, with additional support from Adam Grey and Steve Nobes. A solid bowling performance all round was capped by a three wicket haul for debutant Blair Hope-Hall, plus a couple for the wily seam of Robert ‘Elvis’ Costello. A solid fielding performance all round, not least from Will ‘Toffee’ Helbert and Simon Powell, saw the Sunday XI come home victorious for the first time this season.
Our thanks to Ebrington and Winchcombe for hosting two fabulous games of cricket, both played in a positive spirit.
