First XI Cruise To 8 Wicket Victory

May 13th, 2015

Campden maintained their excellent start to the season in the Cotswold Hills League division 2 with a comfortable 8 wicket victory over newly promoted Leek Wootton.

Fielding first on a lively wicket Campden debutant Joe Cafearo was handed the new ball and was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3-16. For a short period the Leek Wootton tail wagged but Dan Moore mopped up the last few wickets, claiming 3-22 leaving Leek Wootton 109 all out in 44 overs.

Tea was served in one of the better clubhouses on the circuit and Lewy claimed his seat ready for the Man Utd match due to start at 5.30pm - this saw him dropped from number 3 in the order down to number 11!

In reply Campden ambled to 77-2 off 25 overs but were always ahead of the rate. At the fall of the second wicket the rate increased dramatically as Jack Groves entered. He hit a quick fire 19 not out while James Lindner played the anchorman role all innings with 46 not out. Guy and Sam Nicholls contributed about 40 for their 2 wickets.

The win leaves Campden 2nd in the league on 44 points - the best start for a number of years!
