Gloucestershire Cricket Board gets behind Chipping Campden initiative
April 7th, 2015
Chipping Campden Cricket Club, one of the oldest cricket clubs in the Cotswolds, is launching a junior section for the 2015 season. Girls and boys, from the ages of five to eleven, are invited to the club on Friday nights to experience the basics of cricket, make new friends and discover a new sport.
Sessions will take place every Friday, from 6 to 8pm, from the beginning of May to the end of July and will be run by ECB-qualified coaches and volunteers.
The programme will be kicked off by an open day on Saturday, 18th April, at the Station Road ground. The open day looks set to be a fun-packed event, with bouncy castles, cricket teas and an open bar all adding to the sense of occasion. Children will be able to get an introduction to bowling, batting and fielding, while parents can enjoy some refreshment in the clubhouse, or help out with the sessions.
Junior’s founder, Rob Costello, is delighted with the response to the initiative and noted:
“It’s been great to see the support we’ve had from the community. Everyone is getting behind the project and we’ve got an extremely strong team of volunteers and coaches to get the programme going. As a father of two, I am thrilled to see our local cricket club thriving and opening its doors to the next generation. We’re also extremely appreciative of all the help we’ve received from the Gloucestershire Cricket Board, who have supported us every step of the way in launching our junior section.”
Steve Silk, chief executive of Gloucestershire Cricket Board added:
“It’s fabulous to see what is going on at Chipping Campden at the moment. There is a real energy about the place and the team there are making great strides in bringing cricket to a new generation. They have our full support and we hope to see the fruits of their labours playing for the county in a decade’s time!”
